The richest member of Congress by reported net worth is Sen. James C. Justice, Republican of West Virginia, with an estimated $1.24 billion in his 2025 report, filed September 8, 2026 [1][2]. Rep. Jefferson Shreve, Republican of Indiana ($731.8 million), and Sen. Rick Scott, Republican of Florida ($512.4 million), follow; the highest-ranked Democrat is Sen. Mark R. Warner of Virginia at $224.8 million [1][3][4]. These are DataPorium estimates from the middle of the value ranges in financial disclosure reports filed through September 2026, and they leave out the personal home. DataPorium data show the median member reported $1.71 million in 2025 reports [1].
Who are the 25 richest members of Congress?
The table ranks the 513 sitting members of Congress (including non-voting delegates) whose latest disclosure report has figures in DataPorium's data, as of October 20, 2026 [1]. Members file assets and debts in value ranges, such as "$5,000,001 to $25,000,000", so every net worth is a range. The "estimate" column is the middle of that range, which DataPorium uses to rank members. Most rows come from 2025 annual reports filed between May and September 2026; one comes from a 2026 report a new senator filed on taking office [1].

How is a member's net worth estimated?
Members of the House and the Senate file a financial disclosure report every year covering the previous calendar year, and new members file one when they take office [5]. The reports list each asset and debt in a value band rather than an exact dollar amount. DataPorium reads every band, adds the lowest values of all assets and subtracts the highest values of all debts to get the bottom of the range, does the reverse for the top, and takes the middle as the estimate [1].
Three limits matter when reading these numbers:
- The personal home is generally left out. The forms do not require a member's own residence unless it earns income, so most estimates exclude it. A few members list a residence anyway, and those values are counted as filed [1].
- Open-ended bands count at their floor. The top band, "over $50,000,000", is counted as $50 million, so the true value of a very large holding can be higher [1].
- Some accounts are missing. The reports leave out some accounts, such as government retirement plans, and 25 sitting members in the data have no parsed figures, for example because their report is a scanned paper filing [1].
Because the bands are wide, the ranges are wide too. Sen. Justice's range runs from $819.6 million to $1.66 billion, and his five largest reported assets are amounts owed to him (receivables) from companies such as Southern Coal and Bluestone, each in the "over $50,000,000" band [2].
How much are members of Congress worth by party and chamber?
Across the 513 sitting members with figures, the median estimated net worth was $2.09 million for the 262 Republicans, $1.43 million for the 248 Democrats and $896,014 for the 3 independents [1]. The median, the member in the middle, is a better guide than the average here, because a few very large fortunes pull averages up: the Republican average was $22.6 million and the Democratic average $8.7 million [1].
| Group | Members with figures | Median net worth | Average net worth | Over $1 million | Over $10 million |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Republicans | 262 | $2.09M | $22.6M | 162 | 60 |
| Democrats | 248 | $1.43M | $8.7M | 136 | 41 |
| Independents | 3 | $0.90M | $8.8M | 1 | 1 |
| Senate | 98 | $3.53M | $37.4M | 72 | 27 |
| House | 415 | $1.30M | $10.7M | 227 | 75 |

In total, 299 of the 513 members (58.3%) reported an estimated net worth above $1 million, and 102 (19.9%) above $10 million [1]. Senators reported more than House members at the median, $3.53 million against $1.30 million [1]. Of the 25 richest members in the table, 16 are Republicans and 9 are Democrats, and 10 sit in the Senate and 15 in the House [1].
Our analysis of DataPorium's disclosure data shows that one member, Sen. Justice, accounts for about 15% of the combined estimated net worth of all 513 sitting members with figures ($8.12 billion).
Has the net worth of Congress grown?
Looking only at members in office today, their reports show rising wealth over time. The median of their 2025 reports was $1.71 million (502 members), up from $1.43 million in their 2024 reports (497 members) and $1.03 million in their 2019 reports (312 members, because many current members were not yet in Congress) [1]. The groups are not identical from year to year, so the comparison shows a direction, not an exact growth rate.
At the other end, some members report more debt than assets. Rep. Ken Calvert, Republican of California, had the lowest estimate, -$53.9 million, because the debts on his report (12 liabilities, $46.4 million to $107.1 million) exceed his reported assets [1]. Sen. Christopher Murphy, Democrat of Connecticut, and Sen. Tom Cotton, Republican of Arkansas, both reported estimates of about -$2.4 million, with reported debts of at least $1.05 million against reported assets of at most $1.25 million [1].
What do the most-searched members report?
Several members are searched far more often than their rank would suggest. Their latest figures, all from 2025 reports filed in 2026 [1]:
- Jared Moskowitz (Democrat, Florida): $3.7 million to $21.1 million, estimate $12.4 million.
- Susan M. Collins (Republican, Maine): $3.7 million to $9.8 million, estimate $6.8 million.
- Andy Biggs (Republican, Arizona): $0.9 million to $9.6 million, estimate $5.3 million.
- Tom Cotton (Republican, Arkansas): -$4.7 million to $0.0 million, estimate -$2.4 million.
Former members are not in the ranking. Mitt Romney's final Senate report, for 2024, showed $85.2 million to $342.1 million, an estimate of $213.7 million [1]. Each member's page on DataPorium Politician Trades shows the full report history, the largest assets and the stock trades they disclosed.
